The Marshall County School System features six elementary schools,
three middle schools, and Marshall County High School. Our sports and
cultural facilities compare to those found at the university and
private college level. The Reed Conder Gymnasium is an impressive
display of educational commitment and pride, featuring a dazzling
playing floor, and top-of-the-line weight and training areas. A
second Auxiliary gym has also been added.
Today, more than ever, parents and students are discovering the value
of quality education, with the continuing changes in our society;
parents are seeking the choice of private Christian education.
Therefore, the county is also host to a popular private school,
Christian Fellowship, which offers fully accredited programs, for
kindergarten through 12th Grade. All faculty members are certified
and/or degreed, many having advanced study and degrees. They are
deeply committed to making their lives count as they give themselves
to the spiritual and academic discipleship of the students God has
given them.
The Marshall County Exceptional Center, a hands-on training center
for the mentally/developmentally handicapped, compliments our
education system by assisting these individuals in developing
independent living capabilities and job skills.
Find out more in depth information about the individual schools,
their faculty, their administrators, calendars, school report cards
and much more at their official website for the
Marshall County
School System, the
Christian Fellowship School.

When many people think of "culture", they picture symphony orchestras
and art galleries. In Marshall County, our definition goes beyond the
expected. Marshall County celebrates its culture in the living beauty
of folk art, the pleasant and peaceful sounds of bluegrass and
gospel, and even by paying tribute to the humble sweet potato.
On the first Monday of April, the streets of Benton fill with
thousands of people, all who have come to the annual celebration of
the sweet potato. Tater Day started in 1842 with the trading and
selling of sweet potatoes. Tater Day features a parade, flea market,
arts and crafts, beauty pageants, carnival rides, barbeque cook off
competition, Tater trot & run, and all the “good eats” you would
expect to find at an old time country fair.
The Big Singing, held the fourth Sunday in May at the Marshall County
Courthouse in Benton, is the oldest indigenous music festival in the
United States. The Big Singing has actually attracted singers from
several foreign countries to sing the sacred southern harmony music
from William Walker's original "shaped note" hymnals.
The Kentucky Lake Bluegrass Festival attracts local and big name
bluegrass artists from all across the US who come perform in front of
thousands of bluegrass fans at Kenlake's Amphitheater located on the
shores of Kentucky Lake. The audience enjoys two days of outstanding
bluegrass music by 8 to 10 different groups. Visitors come by land
and boat to this famous event.
July and Summer bring Ameribration, Calvert City's salute to our
country's birth with a parade, beauty pageant, arts and crafts, and a
dazzling fireworks display at dusk. Two other fireworks displays in
Marshall County also mark our nation's independence, one at Kentucky
Dam Village State Resort Park and another at Kenlake State Resort
Park, both viewable from land and from massive Kentucky Lake.
The first weekend in August brings a Walk In Time Antique Tractor,
Gas Engine & Modern Equipment Show to Calvert City. Visitors stroll
along a one mile paved trail to see workhorses of Past and Present –
Also enjoy flea market and food vendors and free concerts in the
evenings!
The Hot August Blues Festival attracts local and big name blues
artists who perform at Kenlake's Amphitheater located on the shores
of Kentucky Lake. The audience enjoys three days and nights of
"blues" while eating some of the best barbeque in the South. Visitors
come by land and boat to this famous event.
The Aurora Country Festival, held in October, features a flea market,
parade and hayrides in the crisp and colorful glory of autumn. Crafts
in the Village at Kentucky Dam Village is held in October and once
again in Spring. Arts and crafts enthusiasts from across the country
come to view and purchase the work of some of the most talented
artisans in the nation.
Clay Campbell's Kentucky Opry features down-home comedy and country
musical entertainment for the whole family every Friday and Saturday
night. Christmas brings the holiday jamboree that is at the top of
everyone's wish list. And don’t forget Variety! Music, Memories &
More a two-hour Branson style musical revue with a professional cast
of singers, dancers and a live band at Badgetts Playhouse in Grand
Rivers, KY.
Nearby Murray with its renowned university offers symphonic band,
choir and jazz band concerts, plays, musicals, operas, and the Clara
Eagle Art Gallery.
Nearby Paducah has the Market House Theater, the Paducah Symphony
Orchestra and the Museum of the American Quilter's Society where
quilters from around the world gather each April to compete in the
largest competition of its kind. The sheer artistry on the display
here is breathtaking even to the most casual visitor. Paducah is also
home to the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center for Performing Arts
which hosts Broadway hits theatre, dance and a musical series with
big name entertainers and traveling productions year-round.
You can find symphonies and art galleries just about anywhere, but to
experience true "culture", come to Marshall County. You can kick
back, marvel, laugh, and eat a lot. And there's plenty for everyone
to enjoy!
